Biometrics
Biometric Security Systems consist of methods for uniquely recognizing humans based upon one or more physical or behavioral traits. In security, biometrics is used as a form of access control and time clocks (payroll). Biometrics unequivocally link an individual to a transaction or event. A biometric time clock assures tha tno employee can punch in for another, eliminating time fraud and reducing payroll costs. It is also used to identify individuals in groups that are under surveillance.
Biometric devices identify a human from a measurement of a physical characteristic or behavioral trait. i.e. retinal scan, fingerprint patterns, DNA sequence characteristics, voice prints, etc.
Benefits of biometics:
- Increases Security
- Reduces Fraud
- Replaces Passwords
- No lost or stolen cards or PINs
- Legal Certainty – who was identified, when
There are different types of biometric security technologies:
- Facial Recognition
- Fingerprint Recognition
- Hand Geometry
- Iris Recognition
- Voice Recognition
